TriboCoating® Zinc Flake

Corrosion protection zinc flake coating

High-performance corrosion protection with thin, hydrogen embrittlement-free zinc flake coating

A zinc flake coating offers corrosion protection through two main mechanisms: on the one hand, through the active cathodic protection provided by the zinc and, on the other, through the passive barrier effect of the flake-like structured flakes. These two effects work together synergistically and ensure a high level of protection against corrosion with minimal coating thickness, without the risk of hydrogen embrittlement.

Corrosion protection zinc flake coating

Procedure description

Zinc flake coatings provide excellent and long-lasting corrosion protection, characterized by thin, dimensionally accurate layer thicknesses while eliminating the risk of hydrogen embrittlement, especially in high-strength steels.

The flake-like structure of the zinc and aluminum flakes in combination with the non-electrolytic application makes it possible to combine active cathodic protection with a dense barrier effect. This makes them particularly advantageous for highly stressed fasteners as well as complex geometries.

Additional applications: pawls, rotary latches

Performance

Molybdenum disulphide is used as a dry lubricant in anti-friction coatings, particularly for high load conditions. By adding ceramic structures or other solid lubricants, the tribological performance can be further increased depending on the application.

MoS₂ can also be used under vacuum conditions and is thermally stable up to 1100 °C.

MoS₂ bonded coatings can be applied to a wide variety of materials, such as high-strength steels, aluminum and titanium alloys.

Special features
  • Combination coatings with TriboCoating® bonded coatings
  • Internal pre-treatment processes
  • High production capacities

How do we apply MoS2 anti friction coatings

Zinc flake coatings can be applied in bulk processes, as a mass coating process or in a rack process. Blasting treatment and Zn phosphating are among the methods used to pre-treat the materials. In combination with galvanic ZnNi surfaces or Zn flake coatings, corrosion resistances of over 720 hours in the salt spray test in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9227 can be achieved.
